Electric and Gas Utilities Return on Common Equity (ROE)

On a quarterly basis, regulated electric and gas utilities in South Carolina provide financial reports to the PSC for the previous 12 months. One datapoint provided in these reports is the utility’s Return on Equity (ROE). An ROE is the allowed rate of profit for a regulated company. The ORS compiles a table of these ROEs by utility each quarter to compare the Approved and Reported ROEs for each period. The "Approved ROE” is the return the utility has the opportunity to earn on its equity. The “Reported ROE” is the actual return the utility reported to the PSC for that timeframe.
