Celebrate Energy Action Month in October

COLUMBIA, S.C. – October is Energy Action Month, an awareness event meant to encourage energy savings through efficiency and conservation.  The State Energy Office, a department within the South Carolina Office of Regulatory Staff, is joining others around the state in celebrating Energy Action Month by sharing steps we can all take to save energy.

On October 1, 2025, from 10:01 – 11:01 AM, public and private entities are invited to actively reduce energy consumption or learn more about how to reduce energy use during the 6th Annual SC Energy Hour. This demonstration can range from turning off lights in your home or office, to hosting a virtual discussion about energy-saving benefits.

Additionally, the State Energy Office encourages the celebration of Energy Action Month and SC Energy Hour in October by playing energy bingo, signing an Energy Action Month pledge, posting on social media (Facebook | LinkedIn | YouTube | Twitter) using hashtag #SCEnergyHour, or participating in a new statewide scavenger hunt, in which participants can complete missions to learn about energy and earn points for prizes.  Those interested can also learn more about Energy Action Month by watching an energy-efficiency related video or reading a proclamation from Governor Henry McMaster

During October, South Carolinians are encouraged to review how they use energy at home and at work.  The State Energy Office maintains an online Energy Saver Tool and website to help consumers easily find energy-saving programs.  Consolidated in one central, online location, these programs can be accessed by visiting EnergySaver.SC.GOV. The tool offers an easy way for the public to answer a few simple questions and find available energy-saving programs and opportunities.
