COVID-19 Safety Reminder for Consumers: Keep At Least a Six-Foot Distance from Utility Crews

Orange sign reads "utility work ahead" with trucks and a backhoe parked behind in the road

While so many of us are telecommuting and depending on essential businesses to keep us going during the COVID-19 crisis, it is more important than ever to have a steady and reliable flow of electricity and natural gas.

The ORS has heard concerns from utilities that, in some instances, consumers are not maintaining a six-foot, social-distancing separation from utility crews working in the field and from utility workers who might visit your property to conduct maintenance or repairs.

In addition to the current need for social distancing, work sites can have hidden dangers; it is important for you to keep a safe distance and also not to distract crews from their work.

For your safety and that of utility workers, please remember to maintain a safe distance of at least six feet wherever you see utility crews at work.

The ORS has a COVID-19 page devoted to providing consumers with updates on actions taken by the regulated utilities and cooperatives during this crisis. You can find the latest news at ORS.SC.GOV/covid19.
