A new credit card payment portal allowing Class C passenger carriers to pay their semi-annual license decal fees is live and available for public use. Class C passenger carriers include taxis, limousines, and certain types of non-emergency medical transportation.
The License Decal Payment Portal makes paying fees for license decals easier for passenger carriers. The new portal is ready for use by passenger carriers applying for or renewing their license decals for the upcoming distribution in June 2020.
The ORS has regulatory oversight of the licensing – including enforcement of insurance and rates – of passenger carriers. As part of this responsibility, the agency is in charge of the license decal process for Class C passenger carriers. These carriers are required by law to have and display a license decal and to renew that decal every six months. They are also required to register any new vehicles to apply for a license decal.
Fees are determined by the vehicle weight listed on the title and/or vehicle registration card; license decals for each six-month enforcement period are a different color. Passenger carriers must comply with all requirements of the Public Service Commission of South Carolina before any license decals will be issued by the ORS.
Passenger carriers that need to apply for or renew decals can do so on the Transportation page of the ORS website. With implementation of the portal, passenger carriers no longer need to visit the ORS office or pay by mail. Instead, they can save time and effort by paying remotely.
“This is a service that our local carriers have sought for convenience for some time. We’re excited to be able to meet that need and streamline the process for them and for us,” said Tom Allen, ORS Director of Safety, Transportation and Telecommunications.
